This is a great introduction to people out there who might only know CH from the two hits in 1987. If that's all you know, then you are in for a real treat. Other than the ommission of "Nails in My Feet" this is almost a perfect "Best of" album. Neil Finn is quite simply a songwriter on par with Lennon/McCartney and I do not feel that to be an exaggeration. Actually, Paul has fallen into banalities of late and could probably have Neil remind him of what it is to have an "edge" The songs here range from gentle ballads to more uptempo pieces. Although CH never totally rock, they come close, which some might find a surprise. Lyrical content runs the gamut from introspective pieces, to febrile hallucinations, to anthems to sexual release (albeit in a very sweet endearing fashion with just a little bit of that "edge") If you think you would like to hear more of CH but don't yet want to make the commmitment to buying their full albums, pick this one up. After you have listened to it five or more times, you'll find yourself reaching for it more and more. Once that starts, check out the aforementioned "Nails in My Feet" then just buy the rest of their albums. Get ready to drink the Crowdie Kool-Aid.

Listening to "Crowded House" brings back memories of the home we moved away from, and is connected to wonderful memories of a life that's long since passed. After their first couple of albums, "Crowded House" fell off the American pop charts. But, their artistry and songwriting only intensified, and some of their best music came later.
This greatest hits album contains their best-known American hits - "Better Be Home Soon," "Don't Dream it's Over," and "World Where You Live," but also their lesser known hits, that still shows their masterful songwriting skills (Weather With You, Fall at your feet, Private Universe, Four Seasons in a Day).

I have 5 of their releases, and it is hard to find a dud. That is one thing that was so grand about this band. So then, in the future, I would rather recommend a box set of everything.

I love this compilation, however, am I the only one missing a certain song? From the Tequila Sunrise soundtrack? Which would be "Recurring Dream"? What gives? I think that exclusion was either a glaring error or on purpose. Maybe there was an issue with film rights or something. Oh well. Enjoy your music without the hangover.

Okay, I was a teenager in the 80's. And I mean, the entirety of my teenage years were in the 80's. Sadly, I had no connection with my peers at the time and totally missed 80's music.
Recently, I've been trying to catch up on what other kids were listening to back then.
Okay... I already knew two of these songs; "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong."
Upon hearing the rest of the disc, I'm impressed. I think I would have liked these guys had I heard them back when I thought everything the other kids were listening to was bubble-gummy crap.
There is, however, a maturity level to these songs that I think may have eluded me then... but that leads me to think I would have stayed a fan as I aged and the songs took on more depth to me.
